Aurora is inspired by the cathedral-like ceilings of the John Fluevog flagship store in Vancouver and the colours of the aurora borealis.
This installation was created as a holiday display for John Fluevog's Gastown flagship store. The design harnesses natural and artificial light for a kaleidoscopic effect that transforms the retail environment during the holiday season.
All elements were modelled in 3D and renderings were created to visualize the installation in the retail space. It was designed to use minimal materials that maximize the visual impact on the space and allow for ease of set-up and takedown with flat-packable components. All pieces were CNC fabricated to ensure they fit together perfectly.
The installation consists of over 200 dichroic acrylic panels that colour shift and create dramatic plays of colour and light during the day and night. The centrepiece of the installation is a 25ft tall abstract tree on a rotating platform. The entire installation can be set up or taken down in a matter of hours and packs up flat in boxes so it can be reused year after year.
