Designed as a kinetic environment, in which video, sculpture and performance move in harmony.

For the video gallery at the Oakridge Presentation Centre in Vancouver, Westbank proposed a room full of grande ornate picture frames that could also host dance performances. The frames were required to be raised and lowered from the ceiling in order to allow space for the dancers and guests. The resulting installation allowed large format video content to be displayed, while simultaneously providing opportunities to choreograph performances that utilize the vertical movement of the video displays.

The design process included 3D modelling the elements and the space to visualize the scale and functionality of the gallery. The frames were also designed to house all the components required for 16 large format screens to be arranged back-to-back. A lift system was then developed to allow each row to move independently and to vertically clear the height required by the dancers.

Westbank has since hosted many beautiful performances in collaboration with Goh Ballet, allowing this creative vision to come to life.
